Client Support Volunteers
Through our in-home volunteer program, volunteers directly care for individuals living with a life-threatening illness while also supporting their families, friends and caregivers through the illness, death and bereavement. There are four different types of opportunities for individuals wishing to volunteer with our clients and/or their families. We also have opportunities for Complementary Therapy Practitioners to work with our clients.
Training required: 40-hour basic training course , which follows
the guidelines of the Hospice Association of Ontario includes practical skills
development and theory utilizing a variety of methods. It is followed by additional
educational seminars throughout the year. Basic training is offered in the
spring, fall and winter on weekends.
Time commitment: One-year commitment. Once matched with a
client, volunteers give approximately four hours of service a week
Screening: Includes an initial interviews, three reference
checks, a post-training interview, and a Police Reference Check

Office, Special Events & Administrative Volunteer Roles
Our office volunteers answer the telephone, help with mailings, work with our staff interviewing prospective volunteers, keep our databases up to date, prepare client files and so much more. Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM and we can accommodate your schedule.
Training required: Brief orientation and job-specific training.
Time commitment: Volunteers may serve on short-term
projects or may assist on a regular, on-going basis. Hours vary by assignment.
Screening: Includes an initial interview, three reference
checks, a post-training interview, and a Police Reference Check
Special events, community outreach, and fundraising are crucial for the hospice. We have several events each year designed to raise awareness of hospice care and to raise funds in support of our work.

Students/Interns
