Complementary Therapy Volunteers bring special skills to the hospice and are able to provide relaxation and support through various healing modalities (i.e. Reiki, Shiatsu, Massage, Reflexology) to clients and their caregivers.

Bereavement Support Volunteers receive additional training in grief and bereavement in order to support families following the death of a loved one. This support may be offered over the telephone or in person.

Bereavement Facilitators
receive additional training in grief and bereavement and facilitation in order to provide education and support through an 8-week group to individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one due to death.

Available Office, Special Events & Administrative Volunteer Roles

Board of Directors offers personal skills, influence and resources to contribute to the growth and development of the hospice. Directors set policies, assure adequate finances and ensure the development of a strategic plan outlining the long-term future of the hospice. Office Volunteers work in our office assisting the staff by answering the telephone, greeting visitors, assembling information packages, preparing mailings and other office work.

Human Resources Volunteers provide support to Hospice staff in managing the volunteer program. This will include assistance with volunteer recruitment, screening, training, evaluation and recognition.

Special Event Volunteers help organize and implement community awareness and fundraising events such as the Hike for Hospice and display booths at malls or other public locations.

Speakers’ Bureau Volunteers provide presentations to organizations and community groups including the following: social service agencies, universities and colleges, churches, immigrant/new Canadian community groups or associations and workplace environments. The presentations strive to increase understanding of hospice palliative care.

Communications Volunteers assist staff to communicate with the hospice’s various stakeholders. With direction and input from staff, the volunteer will research and write articles for the hospice newsletter, volunteer updates, and website.
